Artist Statement

Through the ebb and flow of brush and pencil, my compositions build up and dissolve into visual representations of the metamorphic nature of the natural world. The works illustrate the vulnerable and temporal human life. Most recently my work has been a meditation on current events. The past year has been one of duality. It has been one of heavy grief, along with the unexpected time for reflection and reordering priorities. I started these drawings of organic objects as a way of grounding myself and finding a way back to my studio. When faced with the blank page, the prospect of drawing them they can feel daunting. As I go through the process, I find a meditative flow where every mark is a small step forward and what once felt impossible is complete.
